Du Bois Society enters its sixth year of engaging black students to transform perceptions of academic excellence, the organization announces the selection of its new class of Du Bois Scholars. Thirty-two metro Atlanta students, representing 12 public and private high schools, will participate in this year's class of the W.E.B. Du Bois Society's signature program, The WEB. {more}

Black HS students perform educational theater at Woodruff Arts Center to prep eighth graders for academic success in high school THIS SATURDAY. Actress/Dancer Jasmine Guy and Playwright/Actor Barry Stewart Mann worked with teens on hip, innovative performances that share practical lessons for black students. More than 70 black high school students will deliver hip educational theater performances for hundreds of middle school students at the Woodruff Arts Center this Saturday. The performances are based on scripts they wrote with the help of Mr. Mann and rehearsed under the direction of Ms. Guy. {more}

Du Bois Society is concluding its fifth year of engaging successful, high-achieving black high school students in The WEB--a program focused on profiling and rewarding academic excellence, while confronting the stigma among many black students that being smart is "uncool." Essence magazine editor-in-chief Angela-Burt Murray will join the W.E.B.
