Etienne R. LeGrand
President & Co-Founder
When Etienne LeGrand and her husband, Hal Logan, read an alarming Harvard University newsletter in 2002 about the overwhelming academic achievement gap, they knew something had to be done. The report on how African-American students compare to their white and Asian peers resonated with their fears. And, the theory about the influence of culture on the widening gap confirmed the trends they’d witnessed firsthand. It was then that LeGrand and Logan decided to take action. {more}
Joanne Lorys
Executive Assistant
As executive assistant, Joanne Lorys oversees administrative operations and support activities for the W.E.B. Du Bois Society and serves as the liaison to Etienne LeGrand. Joanne began her career at Georgia Pacific Corporation holding positions in Customer Service, Sales Support, Marketing and Financial Analysis. She was also chosen as a member of the initial team responsible for the Implementation of SAP in the Consumer Products Division of GP. Joanne has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and received her MBA in Marketing from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
Amy Pauls
Development Director
With more than 22 years of development and management experience in the nonprofit arena, Amy brings a unique perspective to the W.E. B. Du Bois Society. With experience in prospect identification, research, strategy development, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors, corporations and foundations, Amy is well suited to continue to elevate the development success of the W.E.B. Du Bois Society. Amy graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
Susie Wall
Finance & Accounting Director
Susie is a Certified Public Accountant who earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University. Susie has served as Controller for LHS Communications Systems, Inc. and Accounting Manager for National Data Corporation. She is a founding executive officer of the Board of Trustees of the River Eves Education Foundation and has also served on the Board of Directors of the River Eves Elementary School PTA.
