Du Bois Society, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote a culture of academic achievement and excellence among African American students. Q: Who can join The Network? A: Membership in the Network of the Du Bois Society is open to African-American high school students with grade point averages exceeding 3.5 and interests in the crisis in education among African Americans, preparing for leadership, learning about new ideas, and a willingness to meet new people. Q: Who was W.E.B. Du Bois? A: William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was a noted African-American educator, historian, philosopher, sociologist and political activist, who conducted the initial research on the black experience in the United States. Q: Does it cost anything to join the W.E.B. Du Bois Society? A: No. Q: Is my donation to the W.E.B. Du Bois Society tax deductible? A: Yes. Your donation to the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars gain important knowledge about the college admissions process, acquire valuable community service hours, and receive letters of recommendation from the W.E.B. Du Bois Society to admissions directors at the colleges to which they apply as well as help in finding resources for financial assistance. Of course, we can't guarantee that our efforts will get you into the colleges of your choice, but we do promise to do everything we can to assure admissions offices that Du Bois Scholars are exactly the kinds of students they're looking for - students with a real commitment to excellence in everything they do. Q: How can my company or school support the W.E.B. Du Bois Society? Q: What’s the Lecture Series all about? A: The Lecture Series is a series of lectures on culturally relevant topics presented through an African American perspective offered to Du Bois Scholars participating in the Network. The Series is presented by leading African-American educators who teach at area colleges and universities and who volunteer on the Du Bois Society Faculty.
