COLLEGE Students
Atlanta-area college students have a unique opportunity to support the W.E.B. Du Bois Society, as well as supplement their own educational experience by becoming a W.E.B. Du Bois Society Fellow. W.E.B. Du Bois Society Fellows are undergraduate students from area colleges and universities who intern with the W.E.B. Du Bois Society. Fellows must have a 3.5 GPA or better and have a track record of campus and/or community leadership, responsibility and experience or strong interest in working with young people. Du Bois Society Fellows act as discussion leaders and mentors to the high-school students selected to participate in the program.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Society is is an educational enrichment and leadership development program that rewards the academic accomplishments and develops the leadership and service potential of its members. A signature program of the Du Bois Society is its network of high achieving African-American high school students of diverse economic backgrounds and geographies who attend high schools in metro Atlanta and who are selected as Du Bois Scholars in recognition of their commitment to excellence in the classroom. The Du Bois Society rewards, reinforces, and encourages an exemplary scholastic work ethic among African-American students and promotes a culture of leadership among African-American children.
Du Bois Scholars are provided with an opportunity to meet, interact with and learn from professors and college students, thereby creating an intellectual climate that is traditionally unavailable in high school. And Du Bois Scholars mentor middle school students to encourage them to excel in the classroom and achieve their fullest potential.
