Intern Application

COLLEGE  Students

MISSION: The W. E. B. Du Bois Society is working to make high academic achievement as attractive among black youth as high achievement in athletics and entertainment. We accomplish this through programs and initiatives that transform black students' perceptions of the importance of doing well in school and by cultivating lifelong champions for educational opportunity.

INTERNSHIP: The Du Bois Society seeks African American undergraduate students attending area colleges and universities who have completed their freshman year to intern as a W.E.B. Du Bois Fellow in The WEB, a program for highly motivated, top performing high school students. Interested applicants have earned a 3.5 GPA or better, possess demonstrated leadership skills, a can do attitude, an interest in working with teens, and in promoting educational opportunity. An applicant's academic standing, leadership potential, experience or interest in working with teens, personal initiative, personal interview, recommendations and the completed application are all considered in the selection process. Applicants are highly encouraged to submit the completed application during one of two admission cycles as the process is highly competitive.

STIPEND: $1,000 for the year-long program

LOCATION: The WEB meets at the civic and educational institutions in Midtown and downtown Atlanta. Other activities are held on college campuses and at venues around metro Atlanta.

STAFF: The program is run by a small staff, including 10-15 top African American undergraduate students attending area colleges and universities who intern as Du Bois Fellows.
